Mwenye and Lucia, along with their son, Wonderful, have come from Ntchisi district. They have another son, Kenneth, who has stayed back with family to complete school. Mwenye has three brothers and two sisters. Lucia has four brothers and four sisters. Mwenye completed his high school degree in 2011. Lucia, like many young Malawian women, only completed junior high, which makes DTI another great learning experience and opportunity for her. They both farm at home to help provide for their needs, growing a variety of crops. Mwenye has a technical certificate in sewing, which he has used as a means of providing income as well. In their free time, Mwenye enjoys exercise, specifically martial arts, as well as reading novels and listening to music, while Lucia enjoys playing netball and reading Christian books. When asked what they hope to learn while at Namikango, they expressed a desire to gain a greater understanding of Scripture and how to follow God more closely. They also expressed a desire to learn about God’s mission for people, and to gain a better understanding of why there are so many different Christian denominational and non-denominational backgrounds. Mwenye hopes he can take what he learns at DTI and teach others, even going outside of Malawi some day. Lucia hopes to become a woman of God who knows God deeply, and is able to teach and disciple other women.
