Hunger Relief for Malawi

By May 14, 2024June 27th, 2024No Comments

For some years now, we have been receiving requests from different congregations around Malawi asking for aid to fight against hunger. We have a budget for charity each year, but it is not enough to cover the many requests we receive. Over the last two years, there has been a significant need as the hunger situation is dire.

After critically analyzing the situation and deciding how best to address the need again this year, the leadership team at Namikango decided on a plan to allocate food items to these families and congregations.  We are so excited to report that because of your generous contributions, the Mission has been able to support 815 families (about 4,890 individuals) so far this year.

The food packs that were distributed included:
10kg of maize
5 packets of soya pieces
1 liter of cooking oil
1kg of salt.

All of these items meet a need and give hope to families and congregations. While requests were received from many areas, we reached these districts with $12,000 in funding received in the first few months.

Districts Served
Machinga district = 2,010 families
Phalombe district = 140 families
Nsanje district = 205 families
Mulanje district = 260 families

This will be an ongoing project throughout the year and we are currently working on another wave of relief assistance. A special thanks to International Disaster Emergency Services (IDES), a non-profit based out of Indiana, one of our significant partners in this endeavor for the last couple of years. Through their generosity, we will be receiving a container with dehydrated meals that can be distributed. This is a ministry called GAP that IDES has begun, helping the church serve people throughout the world in times of crisis.

It is harvest time in Malawi. While many farmers’ crops are not realizing the harvest they had hoped for, please pray for people to receive some harvest to support their families this year.
