HIV Ministry

Namikango has actively addressed the physical and spiritual challenges of HIV in Malawi through a holistic, relationship-driven ministry. What began as a compassionate medical response has grown to include testing and counseling services through our Maternity Clinic, where HIV screening and prevention of mother-to-child transmission are provided as standard care for expectant mothers.

A significant part of the ministry’s development came through the work of Bruce and Beth Smith, friends who served in Malawi for six years. Bruce, a medical doctor, and Beth, a gifted teacher and mentor, helped initiate a ministry to train church leaders and their spouses in addressing HIV and strengthening marriages. This effort, which began with in-depth training of Namikango’s staff, has now multiplied: a team of about eight couples serves as facilitators, traveling to churches throughout Malawi to equip others for similar ministry.

Beyond the clinic, we seek not only to address the medical needs of those affected but also to restore their dignity within the church and community. In a context where HIV is often misunderstood and stigmatized, Namikango walks with individuals and families, teaching the truth about transmission, promoting faith-based healing, and fostering inclusion—particularly for women, who are disproportionately affected.

Through these efforts, hundreds of lives are touched each year. The HIV ministry stands as a reflection of Christ-centered transformation—where healing, education, and empowered local leadership intersect to bring hope.
